Energy dissipation downstream sluice gate using a pendulum sill

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
In this paper, a new technique to increase the energy dissipation and reduce the floor length of the hydraulic structure, is introduced. This is done by using a pendulum sill downstream of the sluice gate of the hydraulic structure.

Teleoperated Magnetic Endoscopy: A Case Study and Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights the recent research efforts in robotic magnetic platforms for telesurgery and their translation to clinical settings for endoscopic procedures. To demonstrate this approach, this work also introduces an in vivo gastroscopy performed in a porcine model, during which an operator in Zurich, Switzerland, successfully controls a ...

Magnetic Fluid‐Driven Vine Robots for Minimally Invasive Tissue Biopsy Sampling

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a magnetic fluid‐powered vine robot for minimally invasive biopsies. The robot uses fluid pressurization for locomotion and external magnetic fields for precise steering. Its soft structure and high magnetic volume ensure controlled movements and stabilization, enabling effective tissue penetration.

A compact to revitalise large-scale irrigation systems using a leadership-partnership-ownership ‘theory of change’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In countries with transitional economies such as those found in South Asia, large-scale irrigation systems (LSIS) with a history of public ownership account for about 115 million ha (Mha) or approximately 45% of their total area under irrigation.
