Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain‐like receptor‐family pyrin domain‐containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation has been shown to result in liver fibrosis.

Needle detection and localisation for robot‐assisted subretinal injection using deep learning

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Subretinal injection is a complicated task for retinal surgeons to operate manually. In this paper we demonstrate a robust framework for needle detection and localisation in robot‐assisted subretinal injection using microscope‐integrated Optical Coherence Tomography with deep learning.

Single‐Cell and Spatial Transcriptomic Profiling of Penile Squamous Cell Carcinoma Reveals Dynamics of Tumor Differentiation and Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to investigate penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). It reveals that PSCC tumor cells mimic normal penile epithelium differentiation, independent of HPV status. The Tum_1 subtype shows basal stem‐like characteristics and promotes invasiveness. HPV‐positive basal stem‐like tumors

Fine‐Tuning NIR‐Absorbing BODIPYs for Photoacoustic Detection of Hypochlorous Ion (OCl−)

open access: yesChemistry – An Asian Journal, Volume 20, Issue 6, March 17, 2025.
High selectivity for hypochlorous ion over other competing reactive oxygen species was achieved by optimizing different regioisomers of conjugation‐extended, near‐infrared‐absorbing BODIPYs for photoacoustic imaging. Abstract Highly reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) play crucial roles in various pathological conditions.

Online monitored characterization of Phocaeicola vulgatus for organic acid production using anaerobic microtiter plate cultivations

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, Volume 41, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
Abstract Phocaeicola vulgatus (formerly Bacteroides vulgatus), an anaerobic gut bacterium, produces several organic acids. Research on P. vulgatus is still in its infancy. However, a detailed understanding of P. vulgatus growth and metabolism is essential for its assessment as an organic acid producer.

Employment of artificial intelligence for an unbiased evaluation regarding the recovery of right ventricular function after mitral valve transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Impact of mitral transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair (M‐TEER) on left and right heart function. IQR, interquartile range; LA, left atrial; RVEF, right ventricular ejection fraction; sPAP, systolic pulmonary artery pressure; TAPSE, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion. Abstract Aims Long‐standing severe mitral regurgitation (MR) leads to left atrial

Routine‐data‐compatible quality indicators for the ambulatory care of osteoarthritis of the knee and hip: A systematic review

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Germany has high rates of total joint arthroplasty for osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. Ambulatory health interventions can affect the progression of these conditions and the need for total joint arthroplasty. Quality indicators and guideline recommendations facilitate the transparent measurement and demonstration of care quality ...

Age is not a primary risk factor for ACL injury—A comprehensive review of ACL injury and reinjury risk factors confounded by young patient age

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Revision surgery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL‐R) is hypothesized to be the result of an interplay between factors associated with the anatomy, physiological characteristics and environment of the patient. The multifactorial nature of revision ACL‐R risk is difficult to quantify, and evidence regarding the independent ...

3D virtual biopsy of in vivo pH and metabolism using PRESS and semi‐LASER MRS of hyperpolarized 13C nuclei

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To develop and evaluate sequences for multi‐voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy using hyperpolarized molecules. Methods A standard single voxel PRESS sequence was extended to acquire multiple voxels consecutively. Its SNR was compared against a 2D FID‐CSI with both 1H and hyperpolarized 13C nuclei in phantoms and in a healthy mouse ...

B0 navigator enables respiratory motion navigation in radial stack‐of‐stars liver Look‐Locker T1 mapping

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To develop a B0$$ {B}_0 $$ self‐navigation approach to estimate respiratory motion for motion‐corrected liver T1$$ {T}_1 $$ mapping using a Look‐Locker acquisition with radial stack‐of‐stars trajectory. Methods The proposed method derives 1D field‐map profiles from the oversampled k‐space center to estimate a normalized breathing curve
