Insecticidal efficacy of Isaria farinosa in different life stages of Pissodes punctatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

The insecticidal activity of an entomopathogenic fungus, Isaria farinosa on pine bark-weevil (Pissodes punctatus) at different life stages underwent laboratory testing. Larvae, pupae and adults of Pissodes punctatus were exposed to a range of concentrations of fungal conidia in suspension for 5 s; mean mortality and LC50 values were calculated.

Summary The conidial stage of Cordyceps militaris is a Cephalosporium , which occurs on the mycelium on the larva or pupa bearing the Cordyceps . It has not been known to produce an Isaria form in nature or in culture. Isaria farinosa is a fasciculate Spicaria , and may occur as an Isaria or as a simple Spicaria .

The effects of Isaria farinosa (Holm.) and Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) on adult stages of sunn pests Eurygaster integriceps Puton and Eurygaster austriaca (Schrk.) were investigated at 27±1°C, 95% r.h. and 16L:8D in the laboratory. Two concentrations, 1×106 and 1×108 conidia ml-1, were used.

Cold generation of smoke flavour by the first phenolic acid decarboxylase from a filamentous ascomycete – Isaria farinosa

A decarboxylase (IfPAD) from the ascomycete Isaria farinosa converted ferulic acid to 4-vinylguaiacol (4-VG), a volatile which imparts the distinct "smoke flavor" of pyrolized wood. The activity was enhanced by adding (E)-ferulic acid to the culture medium and peaked with 3.6 U g-1 mycelium (1 μmol 4-VG min-1).
