Ischemic mitral regurgitation is the regurgitation seen with structurally normal valve leaflets that occurs in approximately 20% of patients after myocardial infarction and 56% of patients with congestive heart failure caused by ischemic or nonischemic cardiomyopathy.

Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a functional problem, which results from ischemia of the ventricle. Except in the case of ischemic papillary muscle rupture, the mitral apparatus is anatomically normal and the regurgitation is solely caused by abnormal systolic motion of the ventricle, interfering with the normal closure physiology of the valve ...

Coronary Artery Disease, 2011
Secondary or 'functional' mitral regurgitation (MR) is often due to ischemic heart disease that results in disordered left ventricle and mitral valve geometry. In patients with coronary disease, concomitant MR results in worse morbidity and mortality.

Ischemic (Functional) Mitral Regurgitation
Cardiology Clinics, 2013Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a frequent complication of myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease that is associated with adverse prognosis. The main mechanism of ischemic MR relates to distortion of the spatial relationships between the mitral valve and papillary muscles secondary to ventricular remodeling.

Ischemic mitral regurgitation: Recent advances
Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2008This article reviews recent developments in the pathophysiology and management of ischemic mitral regurgitation. Recent imaging studies using three-dimensional echocardiography have added clarity to the mechanism responsible for this condition. This article also discusses recent studies on outcomes of surgical repair, including current results and ...

Ischemic mitral regurgitation.
Circulation, 1989At a time when hospital mortality for adult cardiac operations is continuing to fall, the ischemic mitral regurgitation subset remains at relatively high risk. Based on analysis of available data, efforts to improve results might be directed toward a more general application of mitral valve reconstruction in this population. Other promising therapeutic

Mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation
Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2005Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a common complication after acute myocardial infarction due to annulus dilatation and papillary muscles displacement. In our opinion 3/4 and 4/4 IMR have always to be indicated for MV surgery. In presence of low EF and dilated LV, moderate (2/4) IMR has to be corrected.

Mitral Valve Repair for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation
Angiology, 2008Our aim was to evaluate midterm results in patients who underwent mitral valve repair (MVR) for ischermic mitral regurgitation (IMR) in our most recent experience. From March 2006 to March 2008, 105 patients underwent MVR for IMR. Mean IMR grade was 2.6 ± 1.1, with 46 patients having ≤2/4 and 59 ≥3/4.

Biodegradable Mitral Annuloplasty for Congenital Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 2009An anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) is associated with ischemic mitral regurgitation through a combination of papillary muscle ischemia or permanent fibrosis, left ventricular free wall ischemic dyskinesis and left ventricular dilatation.
