Quantum, cyclic and particle-exchange heat engines

open access: yes, 2004
Differences between the thermodynamic behavior of the three-level amplifier (a quantum heat engine based on a thermally pumped laser) and the classical Carnot cycle are usually attributed to the essentially quantum or discrete nature of the former.

Integrated Flue‐Gas Heat Recovery for Optimized Steam and Power Generation Using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC): A Technical and Economic Assessment

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Integration of a steam cycle with an existing gas turbine increased efficiency from 32% to 51%, reducing fuel consumption by 21.4% and CO2 emissions by 18.6%. The modification generated USD 13.9 million annual savings and lowered the Levelized Cost of Energy to 38.7 USD/MWh, with a 3‐year payback.

Environmental Thermoeconomic Performance Analysis of Gas Steam Combined Cycle With Different Inlet Air Cooling Technologies

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study establishes an environmental thermoeconomic cost model to investigate the impact of two IAC technologies on the performance of a GSCC from three aspects of energy, economy, and environment. Under arid climate conditions, the SEC technology demonstrates superior performance in terms of cost‐effectiveness and environmental impact.

ISENTROPIC EFFICIENCY OF GAS TURBINE AXIAL COMPRESSORS AND THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE EFFECT

open access: yesJournal of Energy Technology
This paper presents the calculation of the isentropic efficiency of a gas turbine axial compressor manufactured by Alstom. Isentropic efficiency shows how much energy is transformed in exergy and how much into anergy. This paper presents the calculation of axial compressor characteristics of an Alstom GT11N2 thermal power plant in Brestanica, Slovenia.
