Automated detection and prediction of suicidal behavior from clinical notes using deep learning.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundDeep learning approaches have tremendous potential to improve the predictive power of traditional suicide prediction models to detect and predict intentional self-harm (ISH).

A method for combining RNAscope in situ hybridization with immunohistochemistry in thick free-floating brain sections and primary neuronal cultures.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
In situ hybridization (ISH) is an extremely useful tool for localizing gene expression and changes in expression to specific cell populations in tissue samples across numerous research fields. Typically, a research group will put forth significant effort

Lung Cancer Patients Display Increased Expression of Bovine Meat and Milk Factor (BMMF) Proteins in Peritumor Alveolar Macrophages

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Plasmid‐like DNA sequences frequently found in bovine milk and serum have been proposed as infectious agents promoting indirect carcinogenesis. This multi‐omics study detected immune cells positive for these bovine meat and milk factors (BMMFs) in patients with lung cancer, with BMMF expression inversely correlated with smoking intensity.

The Association Between Human Papillomavirus and Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human papillomavirus (HPV), the necessary cause of cervical cancer, is associated with an increased risk of other anogenital cancers. While HPV has frequently been detected in prostate specimens, its role in prostate carcinogenesis remains controversial. We synthesized and meta‐analyzed the epidemiological literature on the association between

Analysis of individualized brain–gut association networks and transcriptional patterns in major depressive disorder

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Individualized brain–gut association networks suggest potential neuropathological mechanisms in MDD and MDDSI. Multilevel brain–gut association changes involving HSV‐1 and inflammation may be relevant to MDD, whereas alterations related to insulin metabolism may play a potential role in the neuropathological mechanisms of MDDSI.

Bijections for the Shi and Ish arrangements

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 2014
The {\sf Shi hyperplane arrangement} Shi(n) was introduced by Shi to study the Kazhdan-Lusztig cellular structure of the affine symmetric group. The {\sf Ish hyperplane arrangement} Ish(n) was introduced by Armstrong in the study of diagonal harmonics. Armstrong and Rhoades discovered a deep combinatorial similarity between the Shi and Ish arrangements.

Controlling Growth of Ultrasmall Sub‐10 nm Silver Nanoparticles From Cotinus coggygria Scop. Extract and Evaluation of Its In Vitro Anti‐Breast Cancer, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study highlights the potential use of Cotinus coggygria Scop. plant extract in a single‐step synthesis of biocompatible and ultrasmall AgNPs for in vitro applications. Herein, microscopic analyses revealed that AgNP exposure did not induce appreciable morphological changes in CRL‐4010 cells, whereas MCF‐7 and MDA‐MB‐231 cells exhibited ...

Clinical and Cytogenomic Characterization of Three Patients With Distal 1q43q44 Deletion: Twin Sisters With a de novo Deletion and a Patient With der(1)t(1;21)(q43;q22.3)mat

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Distal 1q43q44 deletions lead to a consistent neurodevelopmental phenotype characterized by microcephaly, corpus callosum abnormalities, and developmental delay. Despite differences in genomic architecture, overlapping deletions affecting dosage‐sensitive genes such as AKT3, HNRNPU, and ZBTB18 define the core phenotype.

Refining the Multivariable Predictive‐Prognostic PREDICTR‐OPC Model for Survival in Surgical Escalation for Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The PREDICTR‐OPC model is the only prognostic classifier for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) that also predicts surgical outcomes. This study demonstrates that removing survivin from the model preserves its prognostic and predictive performance, with comparable discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility across training and ...

Persistence of Hepatitis C RNA in Liver Allografts Is Associated with Histologic Progression Independent of Serologic Viral Clearance

open access: yesJournal of Transplantation, 2009
Background. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) nondetectability in the liver may predict a sustained viral response (SVR) in patients with an end of treatment response. HCV RNA can be detected in liver tissue by in situ hybridization (ISH). Aim. To determine if HCV
