The effects of nitrogen uptake before and after heading on grain protein content and the occurrence of basal- and back-white grains in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2016
Chalky rice (Oryza sativa L.) grains are induced by high temperature during the grain-filling period. Plant nitrogen status also affects the occurrence of basal- and back-white grains (BBWG).

The Welfare and Educational Impacts of Encounter Experiences and Displays on Zoo‐Housed Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
We investigated the extent and composition of red panda (Ailurus Fulgens spp.) encounters amongst 150 global zoos and their impact on animal longevity and reproduction. Comparative data analysis suggests that encounter animals produced more offspring and had higher longevity (survival) than non‐encounter animals with differences noted between ...

Simultaneous lasing of Ni Kα and Cu Kα lasers from an alloy foil irradiated with an intense X‐ray free‐electron laser pulse

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
We successfully achieved simultaneous lasing of 7.48 keV Ni Kα1 and 8.05 keV Cu Kα1 emissions using an intense X‐ray free‐electron laser (XFEL) pulse. This achievement – the realization of simultaneous two‐color X‐ray lasing using a single‐color XFEL pulse – is expected to advance the development of X‐ray lasers and their applications. We report the ...
