Characterizing Emerging Detector Materials for Low‐Dose X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray medical imaging requires detectors that deliver images at as low as reasonably possible dose. This perspective outlines a universal characterization framework of X‐ray imaging detectors, suitable for both emerging semiconductor and scintillator materials, introduces a novel unified figure of merit that links dose with resolution, and offers an ...

Tuning the Surface State and Zeta Potential of Aged CuO Nanoparticles by Additive‐Free Surface Treatments as Guided by XPS

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Aging of CuO nanoparticles (NP) involves a surface reconstruction induced by hydroxylation and concurrent organic‐O adsorption, which introduces O defects in the NP subsurface region. The defective surface results in a diffuse surface space region, as reflected by a low ζ‐potential of the aged NPs in ethanol solvent.

From Molecules to Modules: Advanced Characterization of Membrane Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Membrane technologies can enhance the efficiency and selectivity of chemical separations in energy‐water systems. Improving our understanding and design of separation membranes will require studying their properties at the molecular scale, mesoscale, and macroscale. This perspective highlights advanced characterization techniques for revealing membrane
