Female, juvenile, and calf sperm whale Physeter macrocephalus (Linnaeus 1758) records from Ireland. [PDF]
Ireland has historically been viewed as a region where only male sperm whales were present. There have however been historical records of female and calf sperm whales from 1910 and 1916. More recently, there has been a trend of female strandings in Ireland since 1995 where 7 of the 10 events have taken place since 2013 indicating a shift in the sperm ...

Evolutionary trajectories of tooth histology patterns in modern sharks (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii). [PDF]
Using micro‐computed tomography techniques, we examined the tooth mineralization in modern shark clades (Elasmobranchii, Chondrichthyes). The inclusion of fossil taxa and computing ancestral states allowed us to trace back the development of different mineralization patterns in deep time.

Defining a common language to assess external deformities in free‐ranging cetaceans
Cetacean species, as predators and biomonitoring models, are subjected to a variety of stressors that may result in poor health, injuries, and persistent marks. These malformations can be used to infer about animals' health, especially if combined with long‐term photographic identification. The main goal of this study was to provide: a broad definition
