Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Robust Optimization for Island Partition of Distribution System Considering Load Forecasting Error

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The increase in extreme weather affects the distribution system, leading to system collapse and interruption power supply to loads. Island partition is a resilient solution when major faults happen in the distribution system.

Spanish embedded question island effects revisited: an experimental study

open access: yesLinguistics, 2022
It is often reported that embedded questions (EQs) are not syntactic islands in Spanish. However, some authors have observed that the acceptability of filler-gap dependencies (FGDs) into Spanish EQs varies with the EQ-embedding verb: FGDs into EQs under ...

AS RESTRIÇÕES DE ILHA E A TEORIA GERATIVA: RESÍDUOS PARA O PROGRAMA MINIMALISTA

open access: yesCadernos de Estudos Lingüísticos, 2011
Since Ross (1967), a major concern in investigations of syntactic movement has focused on island constraints. This paper tries to provide a brief overview of the main stream analysis of these phenomena, pointing out how the Minimalist Program brings ...
