Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Youth With Childhood‐Onset Lupus: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Our objective was to determine the feasibility and acceptability of the Treatment and Education Approach for Childhood‐Onset Lupus (TEACH), a six‐session cognitive behavioral intervention addressing depressive, fatigue, and pain symptoms, delivered remotely to individual youth with lupus by a trained interventionist.

Reading the postcolonial island in Amitav Ghosh's The Hungry Tide. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper argues that literature has much to contribute to the theoretical work of island studies, and not just because literary texts provide evidence of the ways islands are conceptualized in different historical and cultural contexts. To this end,

Prevalence of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Australia, 2010–2022: A Population‐Based Study Using Linked National Administrative Health Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogenous inflammatory condition, with widely varying global prevalence estimates. Frequency of SLE in the general population of Australia has been reported to be notably lower than contemporary estimates in countries such as the US or UK at 19‐39 per 100,000 as opposed to 65‐97 per 100,000.

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Article Commentary: Adolescent Sleep and Cellular Phone Use: Recent Trends and Implications for Research

open access: yesHealth Services Insights, 2013
Adolescent sleep needs range from 8.5–10 hours per night, with older adolescents requiring less sleep than younger adolescents. On average, however, American adolescents receive between 7.5–8.5 hours of sleep per night, with many sleeping fewer than 6.5 ...

Island Shape Controls Magic-Size Effect for Heteroepitaxial Diffusion

open access: yes, 2009
Lattice mismatch of Cu on Ag(111) produces fast diffusion for special "magic sizes" of islands. A size- and shape-dependent reptation mechanism is responsible for low diffusion barriers. Initiating the reptation mechanism requires a suitable island shape,

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
