Is faunal diversity on Maltese sandy beaches related to intensity of human use? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Sandy beaches are rare in the Maltese Islands where only some 2.4% of the ca 271km coastline is sedimentary; yet such beaches are much sought after for their amenity value by tourists and locals alike.

The multiple population genetic and demographic routes to islands of genomic divergence

open access: yes, 2019
1. The way that organisms diverge into reproductively isolated species is a major question in biology. The recent accumulation of genomic data provides promising opportunities to understand the genomic landscape of divergence, which describes the ...

SIRT6‐Mediated Deacetylation of ATF3 Promotes Silica‐Induced Lung Fibrosis by Enhancing its Nuclear Import via Binding to Importin α

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SIRT6‐mediated ATF3 acetylation drives MGARP transcription and mitochondrial dysfunction in macrophages, promoting macrophage senescence and pulmonary fibrosis. Mechanistically, HSP70/Importin α competitively binds to ATF3, modulating its nuclear translocation.

CCL3 and IL‐7 Synergistically Enhance CAR‐T Efficacy in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Synergistic delivery of CCL3 and IL‐7 by CAR‐T cells overcomes the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by enhancing cell infiltration, survival, and local immune reprogramming. This also establishes positive feedback that amplifies anti‐tumor activity and memory responses in both CAR‐T and endogenous T cells, presenting a robust therapeutic ...

The trouble with islands

open access: yes, 2009
This thesis focuses on one of the most problematic aspects of the international law of the sea – the question of how to deal with islands with respect to claims to maritime jurisdiction and the delimitation of maritime boundaries.

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Comparing two experimental designs for the study of subject islands in Spanish

open access: yesIsogloss
This paper investigates the phenomenon of subject islands in Spanish through the lens of two experimental designs, which we refer to as the subject/object design and the simple/complex subject design.
