The ISM in spiral galaxies: can cooling in spiral shocks produce molecular clouds? [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2008
We investigate the thermodynamics of the ISM and the formation of molecular hydrogen through numerical simulations of spiral galaxies. The model follows the chemical, thermal and dynamical response of the disc to an external spiral potential. Self-gravity and magnetic fields are not included.

Large Interstellar Polarisation Survey [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
It is well known that the dust properties of the diffuse interstellar medium exhibit variations towards different sight-lines on a large scale. We have investigated the variability of the dust characteristics on a small scale, and from cloud-to-cloud.

The SILCC (SImulating the LifeCycle of molecular Clouds) project – I. Chemical evolution of the supernova-driven ISM [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2015
The SILCC (SImulating the Life-Cycle of molecular Clouds) project aims to self-consistently understand the small-scale structure of the interstellar medium (ISM) and its link to galaxy evolution. We simulate the evolution of the multiphase ISM in a (500pc)2×±5kpc region of a galactic disc, with a gas surface density of $\Sigma _{_{\rm GAS}} = 10 \;{\rm

An Isolated, Recently Shocked ISM Cloud in the Cygnus Loop Supernova Remnant

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2002
Spatially resolved ROSAT X-ray and ground-based optical data for the southwestern region of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant (SNR) reveal in unprecedented detail the very early stages of a blast-wave interaction with an isolated interstellar cloud.

Stress‐Normalized Sensitivity as a Comparative Benchmark for Intrinsically Piezoresistive Nanocomposite Materials in Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A stress‐normalised sensitivity metric (S = G/Y) is introduced as a materials‐level benchmark for intrinsically piezoresistive nanocomposites. By decoupling electromechanical response (G) from stiffness (Y), the framework enables direct comparison across diverse systems and clarifies design trade‐offs for wearable sensors.

The Supershell–Molecular Cloud Connection: Large-Scale Stellar Feedback and the Formation of the Molecular ISM [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, 2013
AbstractThe accumulation, compression, and cooling of the ambient interstellar medium (ISM) in large-scale flows powered by OB cluster feedback can drive the production of dense molecular clouds. We review the current state of the field, with a strong focus on the explicit modelling and observation of the neutral ISM. Magnetohydrodynamic simulations of

Integrated Single‐Cell and Spatial Analysis Reveals a Metabolic‐Immune Axis Driving Aortic Dissection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell and spatial profiling of 110 human thoracic aortic samples reveals a stromal–immune circuit driving aortic dissection. An elastin‐rich fibroblast subset is depleted with age and markedly reduced in disease, weakening aortic wall integrity.
