Adaptive 4D‐Printed Vascular Stents With Low‐Temperature‐Activated and Intelligent Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitected coronary artery stents were fabricated using a polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) composite via projection micro‐stereolithography (PµSL) 4D printing. By incorporating diethyl phthalate (DEP) as a plasticizer, the thermal transition temperature (Ttran) was modulated to about 37°C, enabling rapid and autonomous ...

When a Fish is a Fish: The Economic Impacts of Escaped Farmed Fish [PDF]

open access: yes
The escape of cultured fish from a marine aquaculture facility is a type of biological invasion that may lead to a variety of potential ecological and economic effects on native fish. This paper develops a general invasive species impact model to capture

Introducing Pure Calcium Orthophosphate Gels and Aerogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of calcium phosphate‐based gels and aerogels is reported, which exhibit highly porous structures built up of networks of nanoparticles. In case of amorphous aerogels, this leads to yet unmatched specific BET surface areas, making these materials especially interesting for biomedical applications.

A method to determine the kink resistance of stents and stent delivery systems according to international standards

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2016
The kink behavior of vascular stents is of particular interest for clinicians, stent manufacturers and regulatory as a kinked stent generates a lumen loss in the stented vessel and can lead to in-stent restenosis.

Using the Photostationary State of Arylazopyrazoles to Control Phase Transitions of Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of new arylazopyrazole photoswitches is designed as dopants for liquid crystalline materials. Unprecedented, the distribution of photoisomers at the photostationary state upon irradiation with light of specific wavelengths (365, 460, 520 nm) is used to control the liquid crystalline phase transitions under isothermal conditions, including ...

Overcoming the Stability Issue for Hydrophobic Hole Transporting Layers Utilized in Tin‐Lead Perovskite and Tandem Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐annealed process is developed for non‐PEDOT:PSS inverted tin‐lead perovskite solar cells to attain PCE 22.67% for the PTAA‐based device. When PTAA is applied in an all‐perovskite tandem solar cell, a record efficiency of 28.14% is obtained with great stability for the efficiency maintaining 96% of its original value for 500 h under one‐sun ...
