Pilates versus resistance training on trunk strength and balance adaptations in older women: a randomized controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Background The neuromuscular decline impact in the functional independence of older women is determining the necessity of implementing new strategies focused on core strength training and postural stability maintenance to promote healthy aging ...

Significant Deficits Are Seen in Extensor Muscle Performance but Not Flexor Muscle Performance 6 Months After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using a Rectus Femoris Tendon Autograft

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To evaluate bilateral isokinetic performance symmetry of knee extensors and flexors 6 months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using a rectus femoris tendon autograft. Methods This retrospective case series included patients consecutively recruited at a single tertiary sports medicine center between January 2023 and July 2024 ...

Isokinetic strength training in below-knee amputees

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation Medicine, 1989
Eight below-knee amputees performed isokinetic training of knee extensor- and knee-flexor muscles for a period of 8-12 weeks at angular velocities of 60 degrees/s, 180 degrees/s and 240 degrees/s. Before and after training isokinetic and isometric knee extensor/flexor strength was measured.

The effect of isokinetic and proprioception training on strength, movement and gait parameters after acute supination injury of the ankle ligaments

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Physiotherapy, 2009
The effects of a three-week isokinetic training compared to typical proprio -ceptive training on parameters of strength, movement and gait function after acute ankle ligament sprain were investigated.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Modified Dixon Fat Quantification Analysis Is a Quantitative and Reliable Method for Evaluating Fatty Atrophy of the Hamstring Muscle Complex After Proximal Avulsion Injury

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To evaluate the reliability and validity of objective fat quantification using the modified Dixon magnetic resonance imaging sequence for assessing fatty degeneration in conservatively treated patients with proximal hamstring avulsion injuries. Methods Magnetic resonance imaging with modified Dixon sequence was used.

Can isokinetic muscle strength training with hip abduction and adduction improve muscle strength, balance, and gait in patients with functional ankle instability? A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background Previous studies have confirmed that patients with functional ankle instability (FAI) have inadequate hip abductor muscle strength. Muscle strength training is a commonly used intervention in people with FAI.

Prediction of lower-limb isokinetic strength from functional fitness tests in older adults: A 550-participant cross-sectional study

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the association and prediction of hip abduction-adduction and knee flexion-extension isokinetic absolute and relative strength and power at 60°/s and 180°/s from functional tests performance (i.e., Up-and-Go Test ...

Treatment With the Shaker Head‐Lift Exercise in Head and Neck Cancer Patients With Radiation‐Induced Dysphagia: 12‐Month Results on Swallowing Function From a Randomized, Controlled Trial

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Dysphagia is a common side‐effect after radiotherapy in head and neck cancer patients. This randomized study aimed to evaluate the effect of the shaker head‐lift exercise (HLE) after 12 months with flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). Methods Patients were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 30) or the control

Isokinetic leg muscle strength relationship to dynamic balance reflects gymnast-specific differences in adolescent females

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
Balance, together with other motor qualities, plays an important role in the successful execution of specific gymnastic skills. However, it is also not clear whether different demands on dynamic balance and power produced by lower limb can be observed in
