Analysis of seismically‐isolated two‐block systems using a multi–rocking‐body dynamic model

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 38, Issue 12, Page 1583-1604, August 2023., 2023
Abstract A novel multibody rocking model is developed to investigate the dynamic response of two stacked rigid blocks placed on a linear base isolation device. The model is used to investigate the dynamic response of a realistic statue‐pedestal system subject to pulse‐like ground motions.

Canine dermatitis on contacting grass leaf: A case series

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 34, Issue 2, Page 115-124, April 2023., 2023
Background – Pruritus is a common clinical sign in dogs for which owners seek veterinary attention. Its diagnosis and treatment can be a source of frustration for the owner and veterinarian alike. A contact dermatitis is considered rarely, even when lesions are located only on the skin.

Results from the second WHO external quality assessment for the molecular detection of respiratory syncytial virus, 2019–2020

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background External quality assessments (EQAs) for the molecular detection of human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are necessary to ensure the standardisation of reliable results. The Phase II, 2019–2020 World Health Organization (WHO) RSV EQA included 28 laboratories in 26 countries.

Effects of forest fragmentation on the weight of understory birds at the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project in Amazonia

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 852-859, July 2022., 2022
Deforestation and habitat fragmentation are known as the chief drivers of biodiversity loss. Habitat fragmentation in the Brazilian Amazon was found to affect the weight of birds that remained in isolated areas. Our results provide a novel analysis into how avian body mass responds to habitat fragmentation.

Effects of forest degradation on Amazonian ferns in a land‐bridge island system as revealed by non‐specialist inventories

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 3, Issue 1, January–March 2022., 2022
Tropical forests have been rapidly deforested and degradation worldwide has outpaced biodiversity field sampling. We here show that a simple sampling protocol carried out by a non‐specialist can lead to inexpensive and highly reliable ecological data.

Influence of hospital size on antimicrobial resistance and advantages of restricting antimicrobial use based on cumulative antibiograms in dogs with Staphylococcus pseudintermedius infections in Japan

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 668-e178, December 2021., 2021
Background Antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (SP) and the prevalence of meticillin‐resistant SP (MRSP) is increasing in dogs worldwide. Objectives To evaluate the influence of hospital size on antimicrobial resistance of SP and whether restricted use of antimicrobials based on antibiograms could reduce the identification of ...

Clinical characteristics, predictors, and performance of case definition—Interim results from the WHO global respiratory syncytial virus surveillance pilot

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 647-657, November 2020., 2020
Abstract Background The lack of a uniform surveillance case definition poses a challenge to characterize the epidemiology, clinical features, and disease burden of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Global standards for RSV surveillance will inform immunization policy when RSV vaccines become available.

Human respiratory syncytial virus and influenza seasonality patterns—Early findings from the WHO global respiratory syncytial virus surveillance

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 638-646, November 2020., 2020
Abstract Background Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes illnesses among all age groups and presents a burden to healthcare services. To better understand the epidemiology and seasonality of RSV in different geographical areas, the World Health Organization (WHO) coordinated a pilot initiative to access the feasibility of establishing RSV ...
