Abstract Isolated carbonate platforms are highly heterogeneous bodies and are typically composed of laterally juxtaposed first order domains with different sedimentological composition and organization, i.e. a well-stratified platform interior, a massive margin and a slope with steeply dipping and poorly organized layers. Once subjected to overburden

Abstract Rather than being homogeneous and isotropic, many isolated carbonate platforms in the geologic record include internal heterogeneity and complex geometric relations with off-platform strata on their flanks. To better understand stratal architecture of a Miocene isolated platform (Central Luconia, offshore Malaysia), this study integrates ...

Holocene lagoonal development in the isolated carbonate platforms off Belize
Sedimentary Geology, 2003Abstract Thirty-one vibracores were taken in interior lagoons of Glovers Reef, Lighthouse Reef, and Turneffe Islands—three isolated carbonate platforms offshore Belize, Central America. Holocene facies successions overlying the Pleistocene limestone bedrock begin with soils, followed by mangrove peats, and marine carbonate sediments of lagoonal ...

The Bahamas are among the most extensively studied carbonate regions in the world, and a number of phenomena typical of calcareous environments have been first observed in the Bahamas. Early geological research in the Bahamas was undertaken by Nelson (1853B) who surveyed their geography and topography. He noticed the “remarkable lowness of profile” and

Deep‐Time Perspectives on Miocene Isolated Carbonate Platforms of Southeast Asia
2023Although the biota, facies, stacking patterns, sequence stratigraphy, and diagenesis of numerous isolated carbonate platforms have been described and interpreted, trends in the genesis, evolution, and sizes among Phanerozoic examples remain poorly quantified.

Tectonic and Ecologic Controls on Formation and Drowning of Isolated Carbonate Platforms: ABSTRACT
AAPG Bulletin, 1987During the Early Jurassic, a large carbonate platform - the Calcare Massiccio platform - developed on the Italian continental crust. The subsequent opening of the Ligurian Ocean resulted in crustal thinning and subsidence of the part of the Italian Peninsula that is now the Northern Apennines.

Temperate carbonates on a modern, low-energy, isolated ramp; the Balearic Platform, Spain
Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1997Abstract This paper presents a depositional model for a temperate, low-energy carbonate ramp based on descriptive studies of five areas around the Balearic Islands of Mallorca and Menorca. This low-energy ramp differs significantly from other present-day temperate carbonate platforms that are primarily high-energy open shelves.

Paleotempestite Distribution across an Isolated Carbonate Platform, San Salvador Island, Bahamas
Journal of Coastal Research, 2015ABSTRACT Mattheus, C.R. and Fowler, J.K., 2015. Paleotempestite distribution across an isolated carbonate platform, San Salvador Island, Bahamas. Sediment cores were collected from coastal ponds across San Salvador Island, an isolated Bahamian carbonate platform, and integrated with aerial photographs and field-survey data to provide insight into how ...
