Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Lowering salivary pH with sugar‐containing gum augments salivary nitrite production and blood pressure reduction with dietary nitrate (beetroot juice)

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Acutely lowering salivary pH (with sugar‐containing acidic gum vs. sugar‐free gum) augments salivary nitrate reduction to nitrite, plasma nitrite concentration, and blood pressure lowering with dietary nitrate. Modifying salivary pH reveals a mechanism by which the nitrate‐nitrite‐NO pathway may be upregulated/inhibited, with potential for other ...

Nocturnal Hypertension and Attenuated Nocturnal Blood Pressure Dipping is Common in Pediatric Lupus [version 2; referees: 2 approved, 1 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2015
Hypertension is an important manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) but reports of prevalence vary between 20-70% in published reports of adult and pediatric patients.

Safety and pharmacokinetics of mosliciguat, a new, inhaled soluble guanylate cyclase activator, in healthy adult subjects

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Mosliciguat (BAY 1237592), the first soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) activator in a dry powder inhaler (DPI), could potentially treat pulmonary hypertension with a more targeted delivery than systemic sGC stimulators. We report safety and tolerability of mosliciguat in healthy men.

Mobile health interventions to improve adherence to oral anticoagulant treatment: A systematic review and critical analysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Non‐adherence to oral anticoagulants (OACs) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions have been used to improve medication adherence across the three phases of initiation, implementation and persistence.

Effects of pentoxifylline on hemodynamic, hemorheological, and microcirculatory parameters in young SHRs during arterial hypertension development

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Hypertension, 2017
The most common form of hypertension in young adults is isolated diastolic hypertension. Diastolic arterial pressure is determined by the total peripheral resistance and depends on both vascular hindrance and blood viscosity.

#2470 Isolated diastolic hypertension in hemodialysis patients

open access: yesNephrology Dialysis Transplantation
Abstract Background and Aims Isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) is relatively rare in the general population (prevalence about 6.5%, Front Cardiovasc Med. 2021;8:810105) and of uncertain etiologic implications.

Pathophysiologic Consequences of Early Coarctation Stenting in a Longitudinal Porcine Model

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Novel stent technologies offer early intravascular treatment options for coarctation (COA). Mid‐to‐long‐term cardiovascular responses to early COA stent interventions are undefined. Aims We studied a porcine model of COA, with and without early stent implantation with serial dilation to adult aortic diameters, aiming to define ...

Comparison between waist and mid-upper arm circumferences in influencing systolic blood pressure in adolescence: the SHARP (Sardinian Hypertensive Adolescent Research Programme) study

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine, 2013
Background: The correlation between high blood pressure (BP) and overweight in children is widely acknowledged, although the role of body fat distribution in this association remains to be fully elucidated.

Validation of the European Society of Cardiology Ischemic and Bleeding Risk Criteria for Risk Stratification After Endovascular Therapy in Japanese Patients With Lower Extremity Artery Disease

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines for peripheral artery disease recommend antithrombotic strategies based on high ischemic risk (HIR) and high bleeding risk (HBR) criteria. However, their prognostic value in patients with lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) remains unclear ...
