Chronic Disease and Disability in the United States: Trends, Inequities, and Imperatives for Policy Reform

open access: yesThe Milbank Quarterly, EarlyView.
Policy Points Position Universal, High‐Quality Education as a Foundational Public Health Strategy. Long‐term health and life expectancy in the United States are shaped more by educational attainment than by any other single factor. Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Ozone‐driven degradation of sex pheromone in Plutella xylostella: Implications for reproductive communication and mating success

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we examined whether realistic ozone concentrations can interfere with sexual communication in the insect pest Plutella xylostella, the diamondback moth. Ozone exposure caused a degradation of pheromone components, leading to significant changes in blend composition and component ratios.

Effect of Morphology and Spatial Distribution of Males on Vocal Identity in a Non‐Learning African Wood Dove

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Emerald‐spotted Wood‐Dove songs show strong individual vocal signatures. Morphology explains little acoustic variation. Acoustic divergence increases with geographic distance between males, while local neighbor density does not influence vocal distinctiveness.
