Quorum sensing inhibitory compounds from extremophilic microorganisms isolated from a hypersaline cyanobacterial mat [PDF]
In this study extremely halophilic and moderately thermophilic microorganisms from a hypersaline microbial mat were screened for their ability to produce antibacterial, antidiatom, antialgal and quorum sensing (QS) inhibitory compounds. Five bacterial strains belonging to the genera Marinobacter and Halomonas and one archaeal strain belonging to the ...

Challenges in microbiological identification of aerobic bacteria isolated from the skin of reptiles
Bacterial pathogens are often involved in dermatitis in reptiles. Exact identification of reptile-specific but otherwise uncommon bacterial species may be challenging. However, identification is crucial to evaluate the importance of the detected bacterial species. The aim of this study was to assess the number of aerobic bacterial isolates cultured from

Efflux‐mediated resistance compromises antibiotic efficacy, yet rapid detection remains elusive. This study presents a novel phenazinium‐based diagnostic molecule for quantifying bacterial efflux levels in Gram‐positive pathogens. The optimized compound enables precise, real‐time efflux assessment using fluorescence and colorimetric techniques ...

Clinical, Environmental, and Serologic Surveillance Studies of Melioidosis in Gabon, 2012–2013
Burkholderia pseudomallei, an environmental gram-negative bacillus, is the causative agent of melioidosis and a bio-threat agent. Reports of B. pseudomallei isolation from soil and animals in East and West Africa suggest that melioidosis might be more ...

This study develops itaconate‐based polymer microparticles (IA‐MPs) for macrophage‐targeted intracellular delivery, overcoming the limitations of traditional itaconate administration. IA‐MPs achieve controlled release through phagocytosis, reducing pro‐inflammatory cytokine expression and reprogramming macrophage metabolism toward glycolysis.

Sustainable Smart Packaging from Protein Nanofibrils
Smart packaging can extend shelf life and improve food quality monitoring. This study introduces a novel smart packaging solution using amyloid fibrils and red radish anthocyanins to monitor seafood spoilage. These findings show that these films effectively indicate shrimp freshness and possess high antibacterial and antioxidant properties, offering a ...

Insular microbiogeography [PDF]
The diversity revealed by large scale genomics in microbiology is calling into question long held beliefs about genome stability, evolutionary rate, even the definition of a species. MacArthur and Wilson's theory of insular biogeography provides an explanation for the diversity of macroscopic animal and plant species as a consequence of the associated ...
