Effects of prior exercise on the performance of intense isometric exercise. [PDF]
The influence of a regimen designed to lower the muscle glycogen content on the capacity to perform a single brief isometric contraction has been studied. Eight male subjects performed a single exhausting isometric contraction of the knee extensor muscles at a tension corresponding to 60% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC).

Gender differences responses in isometric exercise
Abstract: Gender differences in cardiovascular responses to isometric exercise for sitting posi-tion and spine. The purpose of this study was to 1) determine whether cardiovascular responses to isometric exercise differ between genders, and 2) to determine if the behavior affects cardiovas-cular responses to isometric hand tightening (IHG) exercise ...

Baroreflex and autonomic responses to two equated isometric resistance exercise protocols in females
Different resistance exercise sessions/set configurations seem to lead to distinct hemodynamic, baroreflex, and autonomic responses. Nevertheless, the baroreflex and autonomic reactivities to an equated impulse-to-rest ratio (I:R) isometric exercise ...

Electric Field Driven Soft Morphing Matter
This study presents soft morphing matter robots that exhibit extremely high morphological adaptability and complex multimodal electric field response. They can undergo large, controlled body deformation and show complex locomotion on different terrains under the manipulation of external electric fields, making a significant step beyond current ...

458 Reproducibility of Maximum ATP Production Following Isotonic versus Isometric Exercise
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: This project aimed to investigate differences between isometric and isotonic systems for low and high frequency contractions. Intracellular changes in pH caused by the rate of exercise differ in their effect on PCr. The project assessed

Cardiorespiratory Reactions to Static, Isometric Exercise in Man.
Cardiac output (Q), stroke volume (SV), heart rate (HR), and respiratory variables were measured in ten healthy men performing static, isometric muscular contraction (handgrip) during air breathing. We found an instantaneous rise in ventilation (VI) and in HR, accompanied by a minimal rise in cardiac output.

Stiffening Liquid Crystal Elastomers with Liquid Crystal Inclusions
Incorporation of low molecular weight liquid crystals (LC) into liquid crystal elastomers (LCE) leads to a significant increase in their stiffness and output work density. Such remarkable stiffening is attributed to nanoscale phase‐separation and the formation of induced‐smectic domains in polydomain and monodomain LC‐LCEs, respectively.

In this study, a fiber‐embedded drug delivery channel for implantable microprobes, demonstrating the first functional drug delivery system using flexible LCP‐based probes, is developed. The design incorporates fibers for site‐selective drug delivery and electrical functions. The utilization of monolithic thermal bonding simplifies fabrication.
