Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Delamination of Vermiculite into Ultrahigh‐Aspect‐Ratio Nanosheets

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
Efficient ion exchange allows for thermodynamically driven delamination of vermiculite into high‐aspect ratio nanosheets. The applicability of sustainable materials in the packaging industry is currently limited by the poor gas barrier performance of most biodegradable polymers.

Representation, searching and discovery of patterns of bases in complex RNA structures [PDF]

open access: yes
We describe a graph theoretic method designed to perform efficient searches for substructural patterns in nucleic acid structural coordinate databases using a simplified vectorial representation.

A structural systematic study of three isomers of difluoro-N-(4-pyridyl)benzamide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The isomers 2,3-, (I), 2,4-, (II), and 2,5-difluoro-N-(4-pyridyl)benzamide, (III), all with formula C₁₂H₈F₂N₂O, all exhibit intramolecular C-H...O=C and N-H...F contacts [both with S(6) motifs].

Comment on Photosystem II: light‐dependent oscillation of ligand composition at its active site: existence of O6 in S3‐state photosystem II revealed by omit maps

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, EarlyView.
We reanalyzed our XFEL data, the results of which showed the insertion of O6 during the S2–S3 transition in water oxidation by photosystem II. These results contradict the interpretation proposed by Wang that there is no insertion of O6 during the S2–S3 transition.Photosystem II (PSII) catalyzes the light‐driven oxidation of water to molecular oxygen ...

From isomorphism to polymorphism: connecting interzeolite transformations to structural and graph similarity

open access: yes, 2018
Zeolites are nanoporous crystalline materials with abundant industrial applications. Despite sustained research, only 235 different zeolite frameworks have been realized out of millions of hypothetical ones predicted by computational enumeration ...

Exploring the Reactivity of Perphenylheptasilanes: Synthesis of Terminally Functionalized Derivatives

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 652, Issue 7, 6 May 2026.
Different methods to prepare 1,7‐disubstituted tetradecaphenylheptasilanes are explored. The triflated heptasilane TfO‐(SiPh2)7‐OTf reacts with alkali metal halides to produce the 1,7‐dihalogenides X‐(SiPh2)7‐X (X = F, Cl, Br, I). The 1,7‐dihydrogen derivative H‐(SiPh2)7‐H is obtained with LiAlH4 or (i‐Bu)2AlH as reducing agents.

Countable groups are mapping class groups of hyperbolic 3-manifolds

open access: yes, 2005
We prove that for every countable group G there exists a hyperbolic 3-manifold M such that the isometry group of M, the mapping class group of M, and the outer automorphism group of the fundamental group of M are isomorphic to G.Comment: 15 pages, 6 ...

Structures of variants of Escherichia coli flavodiiron‐type nitric oxide reductase reveal changes in the di‐iron site

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 457-470, May 2026.
Flavodiiron proteins (FDPs) are di‐iron enzymes that reduce NO and/or O2 with distinct substrate selectivity. We have produced E. coli FDP variants targeting second coordination‐sphere residues and determined their structures. Although the kinetics remained unchanged, the E.

Similarity and Coincidence Isometries for Modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The groups of (linear) similarity and coincidence isometries of certain modules in d-dimensional Euclidean space, which naturally occur in quasicrystallography, are considered.
