ABSTRACT Purity is the principle that fundamental facts only have fundamental constituents. In recent years, it has played a significant (if sometimes implicit) role in metaphysical theorizing. A philosopher will argue that a fact [p]$[p]$ contains a derivative entity and cite Purity as a reason to deny that [p]$[p]$ is fundamental. I argue that recent

Relationships Between Shared Group Properties: Theory, Measurement, Estimation, and Adjustment
ABSTRACT Teams researchers, meta‐analysts, and others often study relationships between group‐level constructs measured by aggregating individual‐level variables, but it is well‐known that group‐mean correlations are influenced by individual‐level relationships.

ABSTRACT Strategic human resource management (HRM) scholars have extensively examined the impact of a high‐performance work system (HPWS) on firm performance outcomes and the conditions that influence this relationship. However, the factors that affect how intensively a firm uses an HPWS remain less understood.

ABSTRACT The Indo‐West Pacific genus Metaplax comprises 11 recognised species inhabiting intertidal mudflats, some adjacent to mangroves. To resolve long‐standing uncertainties, we analysed mitochondrial (COI, 16S) and nuclear (28S) markers. Phylogenetic analyses recovered Metaplax as monophyletic and resolved four well‐supported clades—the M ...

Rational points on even‐dimensional Fermat cubics
Abstract We show that even‐dimensional Fermat cubic hypersurfaces are rational over any field of characteristic not equal to three, by constructing explicit rational parameterizations with polynomials of low degree. As a byproduct of our rationality constructions, we obtain estimates for the number of their rational points over a number field and ...

Degree theory for 4‐dimensional asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons
Abstract We develop a new degree theory for 4‐dimensional, asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons. Our theory implies the existence of gradient expanding solitons that are asymptotic to any given cone over S3$S^3$ with non‐negative scalar curvature. We also obtain a similar existence result for cones whose link is diffeomorphic to S3/Γ$S^3/\

Narrative Horizons: Deliberate Derangement in Oceanic Climate Fiction
ABSTRACT Although we live in the Anthropocene—the geological age of humankind, wherein humans have measurably impacted the biosphere—we struggle to narrate the Anthropocene. In particular, we struggle to give narrative shape to its foremost feature: anthropogenic climate change.

Language machines: Toward a linguistic anthropology of large language models
Abstract Large language models (LLMs) challenge long‐standing assumptions in linguistics and linguistic anthropology by generating human‐like language without relying on rule‐based structures. This introduction to the special issue Language Machines calls for renewed engagement with LLMs as socially embedded language technologies.
