Hermaphroditism in a Terrestrial Isopod
Nature, 1946IN July last Dr. H. W. Howard forwarded to me a specimen of Armadillidium vulgare (Latreille) in which he pointed out that the styles were very small, On examination, this was confirmed, and I also noted that the oostegites had commenced to form. The specimen was carefully watched for eleven weeks, when it died ; no further development had taken place.

Nitrogenous Excretion of Amphipods and Isopods
Journal of Experimental Biology, 1950ABSTRACT The nitrogen excretion of eleven species of amphipods and isopods, including marine, fresh-water and terrestrial forms, has been studied. All species are essentially ammonotelic, since more than 50% of the total soluble N.P.N. of the excreta was present in the form of ammonia throughout.

Foraminiferan (Protozoa) epizoites on Arctic isopods (Crustacea) as indicators of isopod behaviour?
Marine Biology, 1994A total of 38 219 specimens representing 63 species of marine isopods (Crustacea) from deep and shallow Arctic waters were studied in a search for epizoic foraminifers (Protozoa). Foraminifers occurred on 21 species, and their frequency was generally low.

Physiology of terrestrial isopods
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1993Abstract 1. 1. This article reviews the physiology of oniscidean isopods, a group of terrestrial crustaceans known commonly as woodlice or sowbugs. 2. 2. The oniscideans are represented by several hundred species in 34 families and occupy habitats ranging from sea beach to woodland, grassland and desert. 3. 3.

AbstractIsopods show a wide range in mating systems. Mate guarding by males before copulation occurs commonly in most free-living taxa, with the notable exception of the terrestrial Oniscidea. Such guarding prior to copulation is interpreted as a male mate monopolization strategy, evolved as a response to short female receptivity to copulation.
