Activation and Excystation of Isospora felis and Isospora rivolta Sporozoites
The Journal of Parasitology, 1982Studies on the activation and excystation of I. felis and I. rivolta sporozoites revealed that, although some differences were apparent between the two, both were capable of activation under a wide range of conditions. Activation of both species took place in trypsin and bile between 21 and 43 C (the range tested) occurring rapidly at 39 C.

Summary and Conclusions 1. During the campaign in Okinawa, the incidence of infection with Isospora hominis as determined in hospitalized patients exceeded 0.75 per cent. 2. In five patients studied intensively, no symptoms could be ascribed to the Isospora infection, although in some of these the cysts were present in large numbers.

Isospora species are coccidial parasites that can cause serious disease in humans and pigs. Disease is observed less frequently in non-human primates, dogs or cats. Isospora species do not produce disease in horses, domestic ruminants or domestic poultry, and reports of isosporan oocysts in the feces of these hosts probably represents pseudoparasites ...

Observations on human isospora
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1968Abstract The morphology of Isospora oocysts was studied from 6 cases of human infection. There was a considerable variation in the size, shape and the state of development of the oocysts in freshly passed stools. 80–90% of the oocysts completed sporulation in 24 hours in potassium bichromate solution.

In a survey of 139 dogs from Illinois, Isospora bigemina was found in 1%, I. rivolta in 18%, I. canis in 16%, and free sporocysts considered to be of I. rivolta in 3%. The sporulated oocysts of I. bigemina measured 10 to 14 by 10 to 12 /L, those of I. rivolta were 20 to 27 by 15 to 24 ,u, those of I.

Motility of Isospora suis Meronts
The Journal of Parasitology, 1983The endogenous asexual stages of Isospora suis in piglets consist of two distinct types of meronts, both of which are elongate and retain their sporozoite-shape during merogony (Lindsay et al., 1980, J. Parasitol. 66: 771-779). Sporozoiteshaped, Type I meronts are binucleate, whereas, sporozoite-shaped, Type II meronts are multinucleate.

Isospora Belli infection in australia
Pathology, 1981Summary A case of Isospora belli infection is described in an Australian born man who had returned to Australia from a 6 mth visit to Asia. Medlars search showed that this is the first case reported in the Australian medical literature. However, several cases have been recognized earlier in Queensland Aborigines by one of the authors (T.B.),

Cryptosporidium and Isospora belli Infections
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1988Note from Dr. Merle A. Sande ? Diarrhea is one of the most common and most exasperating conditions complicating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Two relatively newly recognized protozoa, Cryptosporidium sp. and Isospora belli, have emerged as common pathogens in HIV-infected patients; to date, Cryptosporidia!
