Isostasy, Thermal

2011
Thermal isostasy, that part of isostasy traceable to density differences being caused by temperature differences and thermal expansion of rock, is an important but underap-preciated condition in crustal geophysics. The condition/ process of thermal isostasy received much attention in oceanic regions with the discovery of plate tectonics and seafloor ...

Seismicity and isostasy

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1972
Abstract Both a theoretical treatment and observed data show that the isostatic gravity field and the seismicity are closely related. The equation for harmonic loading shows that large deviations from isostatic equilibrium lead to large shear stresses in the crust.
