Stretchable Energy Storage with Eutectic Gallium Indium Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
A highly stretchable liquid metal‐based electrode is developed via a one‐step process, retaining conductivity and capacitance after mechanical deformation up to 900% strain. The stretchable all‐solid‐state device provides a areal energy density of 43 µWh cm⁻2 after 150% strain.

Toward Complete CO2 Electroconversion: Status, Challenges, and Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction and CO2 batteries face challenges in achieving complete CO2 conversion with high conversion rates and Faradaic efficiency simultaneously. Existing systems compromise one for the other with incomplete CO2 conversion and inefficiencies, hindering practical applications. This perspective highlights state‐of‐the‐art progress,

Shedding Light on Common Misinterpretations in Photocatalyst Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
For heterogeneous semiconductor‐based photocatalysts, Marschall et al. highlight common misconceptions in material synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation, together with detailed explanations on how to avoid them. The guidelines thus presented can help to improve reporting of photocatalyst performance in environmental applications, such

Advances in Thermoelectric Thin Films Grown by Atomic Layer Deposition: A Critical Review of Performance and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights the use of atomic layer deposition (ALD) for fabricating thermoelectric thin films with atomic‐scale control. Four material classes—chalcogenides, doped oxides, ternary oxides, and multilayered structures—are compared in terms of growth dynamics, structure–property relationships, and thermoelectric performance. The precise tuning

Decoding Short‐Range Order in Amorphous Two‐Dimensional Nanosheets for Efficient and Durable Ampere‐Level Seawater Electrolysis: A Case Study of Amorphous Ni(OH)2

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work uncovers the atomic‐scale origins of exceptional HER performance in amorphous Ni(OH)2 nanosheets by combining atom probe tomography, DFT simulations, and operando spectroscopy. We identify distinct short‐range‐order motifs that accelerate water dissociation, proton transport, and hydrogen adsorption. Embedding Pt single atoms further enhances
