Decadal Rapid Change in Energetic Carrying Capacity for Juvenile Chum Salmon in the Sanriku Coast
ABSTRACT Adult returns to coastal rivers in Sanriku, located near the southernmost area of chum salmon distribution, have declined since 2010. Climate‐induced fluctuations in juvenile prey availability may affect growth and survival, which are linked to adult returns.

Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions
Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

Moult strategies in birds can vary considerably even within a single species, particularly in terms of where moulting takes place. Yet, the factors underlying this variation and its consistency across years and individuals remain poorly understood. One such strategy, moult migration, involves individuals moving to a specific moulting location amid ...

Single particle structure of exotic strontium isotopes
The sudden onset of ground state deformation and the emergence of shape-coexisting states in the vicinity of N~60 and Z~40 has been a subject of substantial interest for many years. It has been shown that the emergence of deformed low-energy configurations can be explained in the shell model by the evolution of single particle structure and the ...

Abstract Cottus aleuticus (coastrange sculpin) is one of two North American facultatively amphidromous sculpins, but habitat use during its planktonic larval stage is poorly documented. We analysed strontium isotopes (88Sr and 87Sr/86Sr) in otoliths of 10 adult C. aleuticus from a small coastal California stream.

Strontium isotope studies of sedimentary rocks
The present investigation has been undertaken in an attempt to clarify the effects of hte physico-chemical conditions encountered during burial diagenesis and very low-grade metamorphism on the Rb-Sr systems of the various components of argillaceous sediments.

Abstract Using DNA techniques for prey identification is an emerging approach for enhancing the precision and accuracy of trophic information. We evaluated the effectiveness of DNA‐based prey identification in conjunction with visual stomach content analysis of commercially important groundfish in the nearshore Gulf of Maine, with a focus on ...

Variable Sr Diffusion and Implications for Rb–Sr Biotite Geochronology
ABSTRACT The rubidium–strontium (Rb–Sr) system has a long pedigree as a geochronological tool that relies on the application of an isochron approach. In particular, biotite contains strongly radiogenic Rb–Sr isotopes, and thus can yield meaningful crystallisation or cooling ages via this approach. However, the response of the Rb–Sr system in biotite to
