Hexagonal-Grid-Layout Image Segmentation Using Shock Filters: Computational Complexity Case Study for Microarray Image Analysis Related to Machine Learning Approaches

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Hexagonal grid layouts are advantageous in microarray technology; however, hexagonal grids appear in many fields, especially given the rise of new nanostructures and metamaterials, leading to the need for image analysis on such structures.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

CSF Monoamine Metabolites and Cognitive Trajectory in Early Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Imaging and postmortem studies indicate that abnormalities in monoaminergic neurotransmission contribute to cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, it remains uncertain if cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) monoamine metabolites can serve as biomarkers of cognitive decline in early PD.

Calibration of isotope amount ratios by analysis of isotope mixtures

open access: yesAnalytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2012
The question as to what constitutes a fully calibrated isotope amount ratio measurement still remains a topic of active research. For years, the definitive calibration approach has been by means of synthetic mixtures of highly enriched isotopes with known chemical purity to give gravimetrically defined ratios.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

High‐precision isotopic analysis of essential mineral elements: capabilities as a diagnostic/prognostic tool

open access: yesView, 2021
All elements with two or more isotopes show natural variation in their isotopic composition as a result of the isotope fractionation that accompanies (bio)chemical reactions and (bio)physical processes.

Long‐Range Coordination Environment Modulates Single‐Atom Local States and Systemic Impact on CO2 Photoconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Terminal groups on Cu porphyrins modulate the electronic states of single‐atom Cu centers through a long‐range electronic effect, without altering the Cu coordination geometry. Meanwhile, a multi‐descriptor framework is established that incorporates porphyrin regulation, hybrid catalyst properties, and CO2 photoreduction capabilities.

Isotopic Analysis as a Potential Tool to Verify Feed Protein Sources for Aquacultured Species

open access: yesFishes
This study identified δ15N stable isotope ratios as a robust tracer for fishmeal inclusion in aquaculture feeds. δ15N and δ13C values from fish muscle samples derived from feeding trials with seven species (n = 3–5 fish per diet group) were evaluated (+/−

Toward Fast Proton Shuttling in Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes proton transfer dynamics as a descriptor governing acidic OER activity, moving beyond the kinetic constraints derived from the proton coupled electron transfer. We discuss how deprotonation governs classical mechanisms, including adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM), lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) and oxide path mechanism (OPM ...
