Integrating large mammalian herbivores into Dynamic Global Vegetation Models: Status and next steps

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Zoogeochemistry, the study of how animals influence elemental cycling within ecosystems, bridges the fields of zoology, ecology and biogeochemistry. Yet, most terrestrial ecosystem models, especially Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs), remain largely plant‐centric

High‐dimensional elementomes outperform CNP models in explaining photosynthetic traits

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Links between plant elementomes (i.e. the concentration of chemical elements in plant tissue) and functional traits have the potential to improve predictions of plant physiological performance and ecosystem processes, and their response to environmental change.

Amino acid-specific isotopes reveal changing five-dimensional niche segregation in Pacific seabirds over 50 years

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hutchison’s niche theory suggests that coexisting competing species occupy non-overlapping hypervolumes, which are theoretical spaces encompassing more than three dimensions, within an n-dimensional space.

Niche occupancy of Jamaican bat caves: Diversity increases isotopic niche packing

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Tropical bat caves are home to hundreds of thousands of bats of multiple species. In Jamaica, we found that isotopic niche packing is the likely mechanism of coexistence at more diverse sites. Abstract There are over 1000 documented caves across Jamaica, many of them used by diverse communities of bats.

Strategic Planning - Niche Marketing in the Agriculture Industry [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of the research is to improve our understanding of the adaptation process in agriculture at the farm level and the influence through the value chain. The research identified critical managerial decision areas in the strategic planning process

Data from: Do deposit-feeders compete? Isotopic niche analysis of an invasion in a species-poor system

open access: yes, 2015
Successful establishment of invasive species is often related to the existence of vacant niches. Competition occurs when invaders use the same limiting resources as members of the recipient community, which will be reflected in some overlap of their ...

The Early Upper Palaeolithic in British caves: problems and potential Le Paléolithique supérieur ancien dans les grottes de Grande‐Bretagne : problèmes et potentiels

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Recent years have seen landmark progress in our understanding of early Homo sapiens occupation of Europe, owing to new excavations and the application of new analytical methods. Research on British sites, however, continues to lag. This is because of limitations inherent in existing cave collections, and limited options for new fieldwork at known sites.

Data from: Isotopic niche reflects stress-induced variability in physiological status

open access: yes, 2018
The isotopic niche has become an established concept in trophic ecology. However, the assumptions behind this approach have rarely been evaluated. The evidence is accumulating that physiological stress can affect both magnitude and inter-individual ...
