STOCHASTIC GALERKIN DISCRETIZATION OF THE LOG-NORMAL ISOTROPIC DIFFUSION PROBLEM
Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2010The stochastic Galerkin method is developed for the isotropic diffusion equation with an unbounded random diffusion coefficient. The logarithm of the diffusion coefficient is assumed to be an infinite series of Gaussian random variables. Well-posed weak formulations of the model problem are derived on standard Bochner–Lebesgue spaces.

Euler-like vector fields, normal forms, and isotropic embeddings
Germs of tubular neighborhood embeddings for submanifolds N of manifolds M are in one-one correspondence with germs of Euler-like vector fields near N. In many contexts, this reduces the proof of `normal forms results' for geometric structures to the construction of an Euler-like vector field compatible with the given structure.

Interaction of isotropic turbulence with a normal shock wave
Applied Scientific Research, 1993The evolution of incompressible and compressible isotropic 2-d turbulent fields interacting with a normal shock wave up to Mach numbers of 2.4 was investigated by means of direct numerical simulation using an ENO scheme. A comparison of statistics with linear analysis results is presented.

The normal spectral emissivity of isotropic and anisotropic materials
Carbon, 1965Abstract The correlation of structural anisotropy with the normal spectral emissivity of pyrolytic graphite is discussed relative to polycrystalline graphite and to isotropic single crystal nickel. Results reported include data in the near infrared (1.5–13μ) at temperatures between 800 and 1200°C in a hydrogen atmosphere. Photomicrographs (up to 1000×

AbstractState‐of‐theart normal filters usually denoise each face normal using its entire anisotropic neighborhood. However, enforcing these filters indiscriminately on the anisotropic neighborhood will lead to feature blurring, especially in challenging regions with shallow features.
