Euler-like vector fields, normal forms, and isotropic embeddings

open access: yesIndagationes Mathematicae, 2021
Germs of tubular neighborhood embeddings for submanifolds N of manifolds M are in one-one correspondence with germs of Euler-like vector fields near N. In many contexts, this reduces the proof of `normal forms results' for geometric structures to the construction of an Euler-like vector field compatible with the given structure.

Isotropic photonic band gap and anisotropic structures in transmission spectra of two-dimensional 5-fold and 8-fold symmetric quasiperiodic photonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We measured and calculated transmission spectra of two-dimensional quasiperiodic photonic crystals (PCs) based on a 5-fold (Penrose) or 8-fold (octagonal) symmetric quasiperiodic pattern.

‘Quasi-Tricritical’ and Glassy Dielectric Properties of a Nematic Liquid Crystalline Material

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
Results of dielectric studies in the nematic and isotropic liquid phases of pentylcyanobiphenyl (5CB), a model rod-like liquid crystalline material, are shown.

Thermoelastic Interaction in a Three-Dimensional Layered Sandwich Structure [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Composite Structures, 2018
The present article investigates the thermoelastic interaction in a three-dimensional homogeneous and isotropic sandwich structure using the dual-phase-lag (DPL) model of generalized thermoelasticity.

A rapid and reliable method of counting neurons and other cells in brain tissue: a comparison of flow cytometry and manual counting methods

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2010
It is of critical importance to understand the numbers and distributions of neurons and non-neurons in the cerebral cortex because cell numbers are reduced with normal aging and by diseases of the CNS.

Isotropic-nematic phase behavior of length polydisperse hard rods

open access: yes, 2003
The isotropic-nematic phase behavior of length polydisperse hard rods with arbitrary length distributions is calculated. Within a numerical treatment of the polydisperse Onsager model using the Gaussian trial function Ansatz we determine the onset of ...

Existence of non-isotropic conjugate points on rank one normal homogeneous spaces [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Global Analysis and Geometry, 2013
We give a positive answer to the Chavel's conjecture [J. Diff. Geom. 4 (1970), 13-20]: a simply connected rank one normal homogeneous space is symmetric if any pair of conjugate points are isotropic. It implies that all simply connected rank one normal homogeneous space with the property that the isotropy action is variational complete is a rank one ...

Analysis of Shear Flexible Layered Isotropic and Composite Shells by ‘EPSA’

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2012
We present a simple and efficient method for the analysis of shear flexible isotropic and orthotropic composite shells. Classical thin shell constitutive equations used in the explicit finite element code EPSA to model homogenous isotropic shells using ...

Oscillatory behavior of closed isotropic models in second order gravity theory

open access: yes, 2008
Homogeneous and isotropic models are studied in the Jordan frame of the second order gravity theory. The late time evolution of the models is analysed with the methods of the dynamical systems.

Dynamical Condensation in a Holographic Superconductor Model with Anisotropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study dynamical condensation process in a holographic superconductor model with anisotropy. The time-dependent numerical solution is constructed for the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with complex scalar in asymptotic AdS spacetime.
