Conformal nullity of isotropic submanifolds [PDF]
Summary: We introduce and study submanifolds with extrinsic curvature and second fundamental form related by an inequality that holds for isotropic submanifolds and becomes equality for totally umbilical submanifolds. The dimension of umbilical subspaces and the index of conformal nullity of these submanifolds with low codimension are estimated from ...

On isotropic submanifolds and evolution of quasicaustics [PDF]
In previous work the author has studied coisotropic submanifolds and their generating families [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Phys. Théor. 56, No. 4, 429-441 (1992)]. In this paper the author applies the generating family approach to isotropic submanifolds. Recall that \(I\) is an isotropic submanifold of \((T^*M, \omega_ M)\) if \(i : I \to T^* M\) is an

Equivalence of isotropic submanifolds and symmetry
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1997It is shown that any two generating families of the same isotropic submanifold are equivalent. Also the singularity theory of symmetric isotropic submanifolds is developed and the basic classification theorems on prenormal forms, in particular for Z2 action, are proved.

Semiclassical States Associated with Isotropic Submanifolds of Phase Space [PDF]
We define classes of quantum states associated to isotropic submanifolds of cotangent bundles. The classes are stable under the action of semiclassical pseudo-differential operators and covariant under the action of semiclassical Fourier integral operators. We develop a semiclassical symbol calculus for them; the symbols are symplectic spinors.

Splitting Theorems for Submanifolds of Nonnegative Isotropic Curvature
Results in Mathematics, 2011The first new result of this paper is theorem 1.1. Let \(M^n\), \(n\geq 4\), be a complete non-compact manifold such that \(M\times \mathbb{R}^2\) has nonnegative isotropic curvature. Then \(M\) has nonnegative sectional curvature and is locally isometric to a product over its soul. Moreover, \(M\) is covered by \(N^k\times P^{n-k}\), where \(P^{n-k}\)

Reduction of the codimension for lightlike isotropic submanifolds [PDF]
The paper deals with embeddings of \(n\)-dimensional semi-Riemannian manifolds into \(N\)-dimensional manifolds (the latter are mainly of constant curvature). The question is posed under which circumstances, an embedding is possible already in an \(N-1\)-dimensional manifold.

Isotropic submanifolds of pseudo-Riemannian spaces
The family of all the submanifolds of a given Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian manifold is large enough to classify them into some interesting subfamilies such as minimal (maximal), totally geodesic, Einstein, etc. Most of these have been extensively studied by many authors, but as far as we know, no paper has hitherto been published on the class of ...
