Seasonal reproduction of sailfishIstiophorus platypterusfrom the southeast Mexican Pacific

Marine Biology Research, 2013
Abstract Quantitative histology was used to analyse the seasonal reproductive characteristics of the Istiophorus platypterus sailfish obtained from bycatch and recreational catches in the southeast Mexican Pacific. The analysis revealed five stages of ovarian development, eight kinds of oocytes, and one postovulation structure.

Diet composition of sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) from the southern Gulf of California, Mexico

Fisheries Research, 2002
Diet composition of the sailfish Istiophorus platypterus from the southern Gulf of California was determined using stomach contents of 576 fish. They were sampled from 1989 to 1991 from the sport fishing fleet at six tourist ports of the Mexican Pacific (La Paz, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Barra de Navidad, and Manzanillo). A total of 78

Vertical and horizontal movements of sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) near Taiwan determined using pop-up satellite tags

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2011
Abstract Sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) are of substantial economic importance to Taiwan because of their seasonal abundance (April to October, with a peak from May to July) off the island's eastern coast. They are harvested by drift gill nets, set nets, harpoons, and as incidental bycatch by inshore longline fisheries.

A Pliocene sailfishIstiophorus platypterus(Shaw and Nodder, 1791) from southern California

Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, 1982
ABSTRACT A vertebra referred to the sailfish Istiophorus platypterus is described from the upper Pliocene (Blancan) San Diego Formation, San Diego County, California.
