Local and regional drivers of water quality in the Itaipu Reservoir (1985–2023)

open access: yesHydrological Sciences Journal
Water quality in reservoirs is shaped by complex interactions between hydrological and landscape processes, yet the relative roles of mainstem and tributary dynamics remain unclear. Here, we leverage a four-decade dataset to examine the drivers of spatiotemporal water quality patterns in the Itaipu Reservoir, Brazil.

Reservoir longitudinal gradient promotes ordered losses on diversity and density of Ephemeroptera community

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2018
Reservoir operations alter, eliminate or restrain the natural hydrologic cycles. Biotic community has become subject to these non-cyclic events, responding by reducing the species diversity.

Changes in Flood Magnitude and Frequency Projected for Vulnerable Regions and Major Wetlands of South America

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 5, 16 March 2025.
Abstract The increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration elevates atmospheric temperature and enhances water storage capacity. This could lead to more extreme precipitation events, while simultaneously, higher temperatures may cause land and soil to dry out. Such alterations create ambiguous expectations regarding the direction of hydrological changes in

Connecting hydrological modelling and forecasting from global to local scales: Perspectives from an international joint virtual workshop

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 18, Issue 1, March 2025.
Abstract The unprecedented progress in ensemble hydro‐meteorological modelling and forecasting on a range of temporal and spatial scales, raises a variety of new challenges which formed the theme of the Joint Virtual Workshop, ‘Connecting global to local hydrological modelling and forecasting: challenges and scientific advances’. Held from 29 June to 1

Selection of an experimental fish ladder located at the dam of the Itaipu Binacional, Paraná River, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2004
The specific selection of a weir and orifice type experimental fish ladder in the dam of the Itaipu Reservoir (Paraná River) was evaluated by samplings in the river downstream and at two points along the ladder (at heights of 10 m and 27 m) during 28 ...

Turbidimetry as an alternative method to determine the rating curve of suspended sediments Turbidímetro como método alternativo na determinação da curva-chave de sedimentos em suspensão

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2011
Understanding hydrosedimental behavior of a watershed is essential for properly managing and using its hydric resources. The objective of this study was to verify the feasibility of the alternative procedure for the indirect determination of the sediment

Beta diversity of aquatic insects (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera) across stream microhabitats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia
: Aim We evaluated how the combination of environmental characteristics affects the beta diversity of the EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera) community across stream microhabitats. Methods The samples were collected in 12 streams around the

Phytoplankton community in the last undammed stretch of the Paraná River: considerations on the distance from the dam

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2017
Aim: To evaluate the influence of upstream reservoirs on the temporal and spatial variation of the phytoplankton community in the Paraná River channel and the importance of its main tributaries in reducing the oligotrophication process along this stretch
