Machine‐Learning‐Assisted Understanding of Depth‐Dependent Thermal Conductivity in Lithium Niobate Induced by Point Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal conductivity, a fundamental property of lithium niobate, plays a pivotal role in determining its device performance. By integrating experiments with machine‐learning‐assisted simulations, this study demonstrates that oxygen vacancies induced by thermal reduction result in a pronounced suppression of thermal conductivity and a marked depth ...

Traps, Tail States and Their Consequences on the Open‐circuit Voltage in Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
It is found that the light‐intensity dependent low‐temperature roll‐off of open‐circuit voltage in organic solar cells is explained by the intrinsic disorder in these devices, which can be either described by the full Gaussian density of states or approximated by a two‐level system, which allows for a more intuitive interpretation.

Transport Resistance Dominates the Fill Factor Losses in Record Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Organic photovoltaics are a promising solar cell technology, but even the record devices with 20% efficiency have significant fill factor losses due to low active layer conductivities. In this Perspective, the authors describe the origin of these losses, discuss experimental methods for their quantification, and explain how to minimize them to optimize

Chemical and Structural Degradation of Single Crystalline High‐Nickel Cathode Materials During High‐Voltage Holds

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The study explores degradation of high‐nickel NCM cathodes during prolonged high‐voltage holds, revealing a novel non‐linear increase in charge transfer resistance (RCT) due to an inhomogeneous, resistive surface reconstruction layer (SRL). Detailed analyses uncover the gradual growth and non‐uniformity of the SRL, which causes constriction effects ...
