Effect of fuchsin fixation of pollen on DNA barcode recovery

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
In this study we determine whether fuchsin‐embedded pollen can be used for downstream molecular applications. We evaluate the quality of plant barcode (ITS) sequences amplified from DNA extracted from both fresh (untreated) pollen, and pollen which had been embedded in fuchsin jelly.

Fine‐scale genetic structure in rhizosphere microbial communities associated with Chamaecrista fasciculata (Fabaceae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
This study characterized fine‐scale patterns of microbial diversity in the rhizosphere of the host plant, Chamaecrista fasciculata. Diversity of bacteria and fungi at this small scale is correlated, exhibits an isolation by distance, and is best explained by environmental factors, rather than the host plant genotype.

A metabarcoding protocol targeting two DNA regions to analyze root‐associated fungal communities in ferns and lycophytes

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 11, Issue 3, May-June 2023., 2023
Abstract Premise Detailed studies of the fungi associated with lycophytes and ferns provide crucial insights into the early evolution of land plants. However, most investigations to date have assessed fern–fungus interactions based only on visual root inspection. In the present research, we establish and evaluate a metabarcoding protocol to analyze the

Calongea, a new genus of truffles in the Pezizaceae (Pezizales)

open access: yesAnales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, 2009
Phylogenetic analysis of the ITS and LSU rDNA of Pachyphloeus species from Europe and North America revealed a new truffle genus. These molecular analyses plus sequences downloaded from a BLAST search in GenBank indicated that Pachyphloeus prieguensis is

A DNA barcode reference library for CITES listed Malagasy Dalbergia species

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 3, March 2023., 2023
The illegal and unsustainable exploitation and illegal international trade of Dalbergia (rosewood) precious woods remains a serious conservation problem. Thirty‐six Dalbergia samples representing 12 Dalbergia species from Madagascar were collected to test the efficacy of a region plastid genome (rbcL) and a nuclear transcribed spacer ITS used as ...

Productivity at the post: its drivers and its distribution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Regulatory Economics, 2007
We study the productivity, financial and distributional performance of the United States Postal Service subsequent to its 1971 reorganization. We investigate the magnitude and the economic drivers of productivity change (technical change, change in cost efficiency, and scale economies), and we investigate the distribution of the financial benefits of ...
