Holocene climatic changes and environmental history of Iturup Island, Kurile Islands, northwestern Pacific

The Holocene, 2002
The study of Holocene deposits on Iturup Island is very important for understanding palaeolandscape changes on the island. It is separated by deep straits from the neighbouring islands and was isolated during the last glacial maximum. Landscape changes over the last 40000 years and the role of refugia on vegetation development are discussed.

Holocene environments of central Iturup Island, southern Kuril archipelago, Russian Far East

Quaternary Research, 2017
AbstractTwo lake records document Holocene changes in sea level, vegetation, and climate on the Okhotsk and Pacific sides of central Iturup Island, southern Kuril Islands. The sediment cores originated within tidal flats that subsequently developed into a marine strait which crosscut the island as sea levels rose during the early Holocene.

Ecology of benthic foraminifers in the littoral zone of Iturup Island

Oceanology, 2006
The composition and abundance of present-day benthic foraminifers in the littoral zone of Iturup Island are examined. The littoral zone is surveyed on the sides of both the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean. The greatest species diversity and the maximum foraminifer abundance were observed on the bench and at the sites of attachment of seaweeds and ...
