Off‐target metagenomics: Leveraging whole genome sequencing to study the bacteriome of the liverwort Calasterella californica

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 14, Issue 3, May-June 2026.
Abstract Premise The recovery of non‐target organism reads, especially when whole organisms are sampled, constitutes a great opportunity for studying microbial communities. The increase in whole genome sequencing feasibility and the development of new marker‐based pipelines enable the use of short reads to study bacterial communities associated with ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis of Lead‐Free Halide Layered Double Perovskites: A Green and Scalable Approach

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Herein we report a facile, green, and scalable synthetic alternative for the obtention of layered double perovskites (LDPs) via mechanosynthesis. This approach allows for the synthesis of phase‐pure LDPs in batches of up to 5 g within minutes. To our knowledge, this represents the largest scale and fastest synthesis of these materials reported to date.

Allopatric Divergence and Secondary Contact Within a Single River System in a Freshwater Fish Group

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Because riverine fishes can disperse along linear river corridors and even between tributaries, allopatric divergence within river systems is limited to large rivers. Within small rivers, such as island rivers, allopatric divergence rarely occurs, and no cases of secondary contact have been reported to date. Two congeneric riverine ricefishes,
