J-integral for Mode-III

2003
Write the general expression for the J-integral for anti-plane shear, i.e. mode III. Using the dominant elastic singularity, shrink the J-contour down to the crack tip and prove, by direct calculation ...

Analytical Applications of the J-Integral

1973
It has recently been shown by experiment that a quantity known as the J-Integral may be a useful fracture criterion in the inelastic range. The mathematical definition of the J-lntegral is first used here, in combination with some simplifying assumptions, to derive the known relationship between the conventional elastic stress concentration factor of a

Estimation of J-Integral Uncertainty

1980
A method for determining the effect of random experimental error on the calculation of J and crack length extension Δa is presented. Predictor-corrector equations for determining Δa are also derived and their convergence properties studied. The application to a three-point bend specimen is considered and numerical results presented.

The Time-Averaged Elastodynamic J-Integral

International Journal of Fracture, 2000
The time-averaged path independent J-integral for a stationary crack subjected to time-harmonic elastic waves is introduced. It can be determined from remote fields providing an alternative approach to compute the stress intensity factors. The J-integral is evaluated for a semi-infinite crack impinged by a plane sheer wave at an oblique angle.

On Three Dimensional Generalized J-Integral

1986
According to slice model, three dimensional J-Integrals are derived with consideration of effects about curvature of crack front and temperature fields. These integrals are proved to be path-independent and convergent. The relationship between the J-Integrals and stress intensity factors are established.

J-Integral and crack opening displacement fracture criteria

1990
The mathematical formulation of conservation laws applicable in elastostatics in the form of path independent integrals of some functionals of the elastic field over the bounding surface of a closed region originates from the work of Gunther [5.1]. Some years earlier Eshelby [5.2] obtained a representation of the ‘force on an elastic singularity or ...

Evaluation of J-Integral for Surface Cracks

1983
A new finite-element program has been developed in order to analyze the stress-intensity factor K and J-integral for surface cracked plates and shells. The program is composed of the flat shell elements and the line spring elements which are based upon the line spring model proposed by Rice. Summary of results analyzed by this program is as follows:

On the J-Integral as Computed by Finite Elements

1988
Convergence tests on the computed J-integrals for a number of crack geometries were made using 8-noded plane stress isoparametric elements. The tests show that accurate estimates for J and the stress intensity factor k can be obtained by dividing the plate into regular meshes which can be generated automatically.
