In our search for degrading activities of biogenic amines (BAs) in lactic acid bacteria, a protein annotated as laccase enzyme was identified in Lactobacillus plantarum J16 (CECT 8944). In this study, the gene of this new laccase was cloned and heterologously overexpressed in Escherichia coli.

J16 The Effect Of Dopamine Blockade On Cognition In Huntington's Disease
Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2014Background Huntington’s disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant condition which leads to progressive neurodegeneration and presents with a combination of motor, cognitive, affective and metabolic problems. Diagnosis of manifest HD currently relies solely on the motor features but in recent years increasing evidence has shown that the cognitive ...

Background Multitasking situations play a pivotal role in everyday life. To examine these processes we introduced a simple modification of the Stroop task by comibining this task with a task switching paradigm. This should increase sensitivity to detect early changes in HD. Method/techniques We analysed behavioural data and event-related potentials (

Enhanced di-rhamnolipid production with an indigenous isolate Pseudomonas aeruginosa J16
Process Biochemistry, 2008Abstract A newly isolated indigenous strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa J16 was able to produce a glycolipid biosurfactant (i.e., rhamnolipid). Analyses with 13C NMR and mass spectrometry show that the biosurfactant consisted mainly of mono-rhamnolipid (RL1) and di-rhamnolipid (RL2).

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common, multicause clinical condition that, if ignored, often progresses to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease, with a mortality rate of 40-50%. However, there is a lack of universal treatment for AKI.
