Terrestrial Planet Formation Surrounding Close Binary Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Disk material has been observed around both components of some young close binary star systems. It has been shown that if planets form at the right places within such disks, they can remain dynamically stable for very long times.

Modeling the Implied Volatility Smirk in China: Do Non‐Affine Two‐Factor Stochastic Volatility Models Work?

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, Volume 45, Issue 6, Page 612-636, June 2025.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we investigate alternative one‐factor and two‐factor continuous‐time models with both affine and non‐affine variance dynamics for the Chinese options market. Through extensive empirical analysis of the option panel fit and diagnostics, we find that it is necessary to include both the non‐affine feature and the multi‐factor ...

A Unified Discrete Collision Framework for Triangle Primitives

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, Volume 44, Issue 2, May 2025.
Abstract We present a unified, primitive‐first framework with DCD for collision response in physics‐based simulations. Previous methods do not provide sufficient solutions on a framework that resolves edge‐triangle and edge‐edge collisions when handling self‐collisions and inter‐object collisions in a unified manner. We define a scalar function and its

Unveiling the Spectrum of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Disease in Adults: From Community to Hospital

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 19, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Respiratory syncytial virus can cause severe disease in the older adult population. Three vaccines for RSV are currently market approved but the risk of RSV‐hospitalization in (older) adults from a community level remains elusive.

On the ground state energy scaling in quasi-rung-dimerized spin ladders

open access: yes, 2012
On the basis of periodic boundary conditions we study perturbatively a large N asymptotics (N is the number of rungs) for the ground state energy density and gas parameter of a spin ladder with slightly destroyed rung-dimerization. Exactly rung-dimerized

Quadratic maps between modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce a notion of $R$-quadratic maps between modules over a commutative ring $R$ which generalizes several classical notions arising in linear algebra and group theory.

Economic consequences of vertical mismatch

open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 535-564, May 2025.
We study two first‐order economic consequences of vertical mismatch, using a simple (neoclassical) model of under and overemployment. Individuals of high type can perform both skilled and unskilled jobs, but only a fraction of low‐type workers can perform skilled jobs. People have different costs over these jobs.
