Immune response induced by fermented milk with potential probiotic strains isolated from artisanal Cocido cheese

open access: yesFood and Agricultural Immunology, 2018
Fifteen strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from artisanal Cocido Mexican cheese were evaluated for their probiotic potential and capacity to modulate the immune system. The results revealed that the strains J20, J23, J24, J25, J27, J28, J32 and J37

A double-sum Kronecker-type identity

open access: yes, 2016
We prove a double-sum analog of an identity known to Kronecker and then express it in terms of functions studied by Appell and Kronecker's student Lerch, in so doing we show that the double-sum analog is of mixed mock modular form.

Bond order from disorder in the planar pyrochlore magnet

open access: yes, 2003
We study magnetic order in the Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the checkerboard lattice, a two-dimensional version of the pyrochlore network with strong geometric frustration. By employing the semiclassical (1/S) expansion we find that quantum fluctuations

Shocks, Superconvergence, and a Stringy Equivalence Principle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We study propagation of a probe particle through a series of closely situated gravitational shocks. We argue that in any UV-complete theory of gravity the result does not depend on the shock ordering - in other words, coincident gravitational shocks ...

Bariatric Surgery Lowers Incidence of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 10, Page 3542-3549, October 2025.
Obesity is associated with an increased risk of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and increased recurrence of CRS after functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). This study found that in patients with obesity, undergoing bariatric surgery decreases the risk of new‐encounter diagnoses of CRS and results in fewer FESS.

High resolution studies of massive primordial haloes

open access: yes, 2012
Atomic cooling haloes with virial temperatures $\rm T_{vir} \geq 10^{4}$ K are the most plausible sites for the formation of the first galaxies and the first intermediate mass black holes. It is therefore important to assess whether one can obtain robust

Reduction of Rescue Treatment With Dupilumab for Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps in Japan

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 9, Page 3093-3103, September 2025.
This observational study examined the impact of add‐on dupilumab treatment on the use of rescue therapy in Japanese individuals with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNPs) using data from a large hospital‐based administrative claims database.
