Dynamic stiffness and damping of foundations for jacket structures

open access: yes, 2015
Foundation for offshore jacket structures may comprise of long floating piles. The dynamic response of floating piles to horizontal load is herein investigated. The analytical solution of horizontally vibrating end bearing piles by Novak & Nogami (1977) has been modified.

Magneto‐responsive fibers and fabrics for soft systems

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Abstract The combination of functional materials in fiber form has led to a surge in the integration of functional fibers and fabrics into soft systems that span sensing, communication, and actuation domains. A key subset is magnetic fibers and fabrics.

Damage Characterisation of Scour in Riprap-Protected Jackets and Hybrid Foundations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The global transition towards sustainable energy has accelerated the development and deployment of offshore wind turbines. Jacket foundations, commonly installed in intermediate to deep water depths to access available space and higher load capacities, are built to withstand intensified hydrodynamic loads.

Operating in perpetual motion? Coping with the dark side of global boundary spanning

open access: yesGlobal Strategy Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary This paper explores how individuals experience and cope with the demands of global boundary spanning in multinational enterprises (MNEs). We foreground temporary colocation as a modality through which mobile global boundary spanners repeatedly traverse multiple boundaries, triggering intense demands with adverse consequences ...

Influence of steel jacket thickness on the RC bridges’ seismic vulnerability

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English ed. Online), 2019
The seismic demands of bridges subjected to strong earthquakes are mostly concentrated on piers. The main objective of this study is to assess the seismic vulnerability of retrofitted bridges with steel jackets.

Production of recombinant human granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor in thermoinducible E. coli: Tuning inclusion body architecture and protein yield via dissolved oxygen control

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Recombinant protein expression in Escherichia coli frequently results in the formation of inclusion bodies (IBs), which provide high protein accumulation but often require additional steps to recover functional protein. Although culture conditions strongly influence IB physicochemical and structural characteristics, the impact of ...

Centrifuge Tests on Vertical Bearing Capacity of Jacket Pile Foundation in Clay Seabed Under Different Grouting Effects

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
Jacket foundations are often used as the main support structure for offshore wind turbines in waters with a depth of 40—60 meters. The jacket foundation is connected to the top of the pile foundation through underwater high-strength grouting to form a ...

Composition and functionalities of peanut protein concentrates using ethanol as a defatted solvent and a precipitating agent

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Defatted solids (DSs) from vegetable oil extraction represent valuable feedstocks for producing protein concentrates with tailored functional properties. In the present study, using peanut protein concentrates obtained from press cakes defatted with ethanol (DSEt) or hexane (DSHx), we aimed to evaluate ethanol as a green solvent for
