Materials‐Driven Additive Manufacturing for Electrical Machines: Qualification‐Oriented Design Beyond Geometric Freedom

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective reframes additive manufacturing for electrical machines as a qualification‐limited materials and architecture design problem. It links process–structure–property–performance relationships to magnetic, conducting, dielectric, and thermal property windows, highlighting where AM can enable segmented magnetic circuits, permanent magnet ...

FastNano Liquid: An Automated Platform for Small‐Angle X‐ray Scattering‐Based Materials Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present FastNano Liquid, an automated small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering platform for the combined synthesis and characterization of (nano)materials. The platform is coupled to varied reactor workflows for both in situ studies of reaction kinetics and ex situ screening of synthesis conditions to support machine learning‐guided exploration ...

Influence of Foundation–Soil–Foundation Interaction on the Dynamic Response of Offshore Wind Turbine Jackets Founded on Buckets

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study investigates the impact of soil–structure interaction (SSI) and foundation–soil–foundation interaction (FSFI) on the dynamic behaviour of jacket substructures founded on buckets for offshore wind turbines.

Managing Information Uncertainty in Wave Height Modeling for the Offshore Structural Analysis through Random Set

open access: yesComplexity, 2017
This chapter presents a reliability study for an offshore jacket structure with emphasis on the features of nonconventional modeling. Firstly, a random set model is formulated for modeling the random waves in an ocean site.

Beyond Nanoporosity: A CO2‐Conditioned Glassy Matrix Contributes to the Brittle‐to‐Ductile Transition of Nanocellular Polyetherimide

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The mechanical performance of nanocellular polyetherimide cannot be explained by nanoporosity alone. It is shown that CO2 saturation and desorption leave a distinct mechanical signature in the glassy matrix before foaming. This matrix contribution provides a new route to understand and optimize the brittle to ductile transition in nanocellular polymers.

Feasibility for Damage Identification in Offshore Wind Jacket Structures through Monitoring of Global Structural Dynamics

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The modal response of a four-legged jacket structure to damages are explored and resulting considerations for damage detection are discussed. A finite element model of the Wikinger (Iberdrola) jacket structure is used to investigate damage detection ...

Scalable Production of Disordered Nickel‐Iron‐Aluminum Oxides as Stable Anodes for Water Electrolysis: The Role of Aluminum

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Solution precursor plasma spraying enables the scalable fabrication of porous and disordered nickel‐iron‐aluminum oxide coatings as precious‐metal‐free anodes. Aluminum inhibits crystal growth, optimizes local atomic sites, and enhances charge and ion transport to accelerate reaction kinetics, leading to excellent performance and operational stability.

Laboratory Study of Integrated Wet-Towing of a Triple-Bucket Jacket Foundation for Far-Offshore Applications

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
As a form of clean and low-carbon green energy, offshore wind power occupies an important position in the global energy structure. With the rapid development of the wind power industry, wind power projects gradually develop from offshore to far-offshore ...

Perspective: Hollow Core Optical Fibres for Ultraviolet and Visible Wavelengths

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hollow core optical fibres bypass material constraints that limit optical fibres at ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. However, their challenging fabrication has limited their development, and significant gains in performance remain possible. In this perspective we outline approaches to enable the next generation of fibres for shorter wavelengths ...

Mechanical Responses and Stability of Jacket Platforms During Cutting in Decommissioning Operations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The jacket platform has been widely used in offshore oil and gas development during the past several decades and faces the problem of decommissioning now due to approaching the design life. During the decommissioning process of a jacket platform, cutting
