Propagules go with the flow: Near‐field particle dispersion in reaches with different hydrodynamic conditions

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 2, Page 305-318, February 2025.
Abstract We examined the effects of riverbed roughness and turbulence (shear velocity, u*) on propagule dispersion in the near‐field region (< 100 m) by releasing microbead models of larval and juvenile unionid mussels in tributaries of the Grand River (Ontario, Canada).

Sexual Signaling and Sociosexual Behaviors in Relation to Rank, Parasites, Hormones, and Age in Male Vervet Monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) in Uganda

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 87, Issue 1, January 2025.
Image by Brianna Anderson. ABSTRACT Secondary sexual characteristics, and the extent to which they are expressed, can convey information about the signaller. The blue scrotum and red penis of male vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) make them a good species in which to examine inter‐ and intramale variation in signal expression.

An Ordovician Assemblage of Cool Water‐Adapted Paleotropical Ostracods Suggests an Early Psychrosphere

open access: yesIsland Arc, Volume 34, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
ABSTRACT An ostracod assemblage from the Late Ordovician (Katian) Phu Ngu Formation of northern Vietnam, South China paleoplate, yields typical Baltic and Laurentian‐affinity genera together with some endemic forms. Detailed paleontological and sedimentary analysis of the Phu Ngu Formation suggests it was deposited in a deeper marine forearc setting ...

Silvicultural regime shapes understory functional structure in European forests

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 10, Page 2350-2364, October 2024.
Different silvicultural regimes influence different facets of understory functional features. While unmanaged forests can be used as a reference to design silvicultural practices in compliance with biodiversity conservation targets, different silvicultural options should be balanced at landscape scale to sustain the multiple forest functions that human

Applying Weighted Salinity Stratification to Rapid Intensification Prediction of Tropical Cyclone With Machine Learning

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract Tropical cyclone (TC) intensification is influenced by environmental conditions, inner‐core dynamics, and interactions with upper‐ocean layers. Rapid intensification (RI) is a significant threat that is difficult to predict, prompting multiple institutions to collaborate. However, the accuracy still needs further improvements. It is well‐known

Effect of early cryoballoon ablation on atrial fibrillation recurrence—A Danish nationwide register study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Volume 35, Issue 7, Page 1429-1439, July 2024.
In this register‐based study of 1064 atrial fibrillation patients, late cryoballoon ablation (≥3 years after first AF‐diagnosis) was associated with a significantly higher atrial fibrillation recurrence rate compared to early cryoballoon ablation (≤1 year after first AF‐diagnosis).
