On the Assembly of Actin Polymerization‐Powered Motors

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Actin polymerization‐powered motors have the highest speed when the actin recruiting‐polymerizing proteins are immobilized in polymer brushes on their surface. These motors orbit around larger tracer particles at pH above the isoelectric point of ActA but dock onto the tracer particles’ surface at lower pH. ABSTRACT Nano‐ and micromotors are a class of

The Janus Principle

Health Care Management Review, 1977
The leaders who guide health organizations into formal and informal alliances must serve their own organizations while meeting the demands of a larger environment. Those who recognize the need for change in leadership style are most likely to help their organizations to maintain their strengths within new structures.

The Janus principle

IEEE Intelligent Systems, 2004
We find here an allegory to the apprentice-expert continuum in the acquisition of knowledge, and so we name a principle of human-centered computing after Janus. This principle deals with the distinction between performance and training, and its implications for intelligent technologies.

Janus particles

Soft Matter, 2008
Janus particles, named after the double-faced Roman god, are compartmentalized colloids with two sides of different chemistry or polarity. This makes them a unique class of materials among micron- or nanosized particles. Due to this special non-centrosymmetric feature in the particle architecture, the synthesis of Janus particles remained challenging ...

Janus Discs

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2007
We describe the synthesis and the solution properties of sheet- and disclike Janus particles, containing an inner crosslinked polybutadiene (PB) layer and two different outer sides of polystyrene (PS) and poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA). The structures formed upon adsorption of the flat Janus particles onto solid substrates as well as in THF ...
