The characterization of pyroplastics on the Sea of Japan coastline
Marine Pollution BulletinRecent reports have suggested the widespread distribution of a novel form of plastic waste on marine shorelines; plastics seemingly originating from the burning and melting of plastic waste. These plastics, termed pyroplastics, were collected in the intertidal zone of beaches on the Sea of Japan coastline and analyzed for their composition.

One of the leading naval studies in Japanese uses as its translation of sea power the word ‘Shi-paa-waa’. That is, because there is no appropriate word, it chooses to use the English word in an obscure Japanese version. I believe that this is of more than passing interest.
