Sea of Japan

Marine Policy, 1990
Abstract : The Sea of Japan represents a unique oceanic environment that offers the possibility for quantitative sea-air exchange research of a 'thermohaline' active region. For the Sea of Japan the heat and salinity budgets can be addressed by: (1) monitoring ocean current inflow/outflow thermohaline and volume flux characteristics; (2) using the ring

Alkenone production in the East Sea/Japan Sea

Continental Shelf Research, 2014
Abstract To test the applicability of alkenones as a proxy for past sea surface temperature (SST) in the East Sea (Japan Sea), this study investigated the season and depth of alkenone production in the area. Surface and subsurface seawater samples were collected from the East Sea during cruises carried out by the National Fisheries Research and ...

Sea-ice production in the northern Japan Sea

Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 2017
Abstract Sinking of the dense water plays a significant role in the global climate system by driving thermohaline (overturning) circulation and biogeochemical cycles. Deep water convection occurs also in the Japan Sea, and the convection has been considered to be mainly caused by intense cooling of the sea surface.

Biostratigraphy of the Ulleung Basin, East Sea (Japan Sea)

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2020
Abstract An interpretation of both micropaleontological and palynological analyses was carried out for eleven wells from the Ulleung Basin, East Sea (Japan Sea). Based on bioevents of microfossil groups (calcareous nannofossils, foraminifera, diatoms, dinocysts, spores and pollen) twenty-three datums are established.

Japan/East Sea Intrathermocline Eddies

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 2002
Abstract Intrathermocline eddies (ITE) with diameters of 100 km and of thickness greater than 100 m are observed within each of the three quasi-stationary meanders of the Tsushima Current of the Japan/East Sea. Within the ITE homogenous, anticyclonic flowing core, the temperature is near 10°C with a salinity of 34.12 psu.

The Sea of Japan

2013
The Dokdo/Takeshima dispute has remained a major irritant in Japan-Korea relations, preventing a deepening of diplomatic ties. Nationalism and the quest for natural resources have, in the context of the Dokdo/ Takeshima issue, been locked in a complex relationship.

226Ra in the Japan Sea and the residence time of the Japan Sea water

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1986
Abstract The surface water of the Japan Sea contained 226 Ra of 70 ± 4dpm m −3 which was nearly equal to that of the surface water in the North Pacific. The concentration of 226 Ra in the Japan Sea deep water below 500 m was 151 ± 8dpm m −3 , showing a vertically and regionally small variation.
