Spotted Fever Group and Typhus Group Rickettsioses in Humans, South Korea

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2005
The presence of the nucleic acid of the spotted fever group (SPG) and typhus group (TG) rickettsiae was investigated in 200 serum specimens seropositive for SFG rickettsiae by multiplex-nested polymerase chain reaction with primers derived from the ...

Japanese Spotted Fever in Korea [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2005
Jang and colleagues in 2004 claimed their study to be the first documentation of spotted fever group (SFG) rickettsiosis in Korea and indicated that Japanese spotted fever (JSF) was prevalent in Korea from 1992 to 1993 (1). I believe that some drawbacks exist in their study design and have drawn them to a premature and inadequate conclusion.

Dermoscopy for Tick Bite: Reconfirmation of the Usefulness for the Initial Diagnosis

open access: yesCase Reports in Dermatology, 2011
Ticks transmit a variety of infectious diseases. Diagnosis requires verification of a tick’s presence. Here, we describe a 61-year-old woman bitten by an eight-legged nymphal Amblyomma testudinarium.

Clinical Characteristics and Diagnostic Prediction of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome and Rickettsiosis in the Co-Endemic Wakayama Prefecture, Japan

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
Background and Objectives: The Wakayama prefecture is endemic for two types of tick-borne rickettsioses: Japanese spotted fever (JFS) and scrub typhus (ST). Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a tick-borne hemorrhagic viral disease with

A recovered case of severe Japanese spotted fever.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 2002

PET Imaging of Cardiac Inflammation in Viral Myocarditis Using a DPP4‐Targeted Probe

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study describes a DPP4‐targeted PET probe for imaging myocardial inflammation by selectively targeting activated immune cells. Derived from the clinically approved small‐molecule inhibitor linagliptin, the probe demonstrates favorable biodistribution with specific cardiac uptake in myocarditis.

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

SERS Facemask for Rapid and Portable Sensing Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Antigens for TB Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study introduced an Au─Ag embedded covalent organic framework (U@COF) ‐mediated facemask for sensing TB antigen ESAT‐6/CFP‐10 complex in clinical droplet samples toward TB screening. Practical analysis of clinical samples demonstrated the availability of our facemask, which is capable of identifying the TB subjects (N = 17) from healthy candidates (
